Spring is here and it’s time to open the windows to let the fresh air in and get your spring cleaning started. I actually began a little before Spring started, but switching things up in one space encouraged me to work on other spaces/rooms as well. So let's talk 'Bookshelves'.
Organize built-ins shelves by positioning your items in various locations or grouping liked items together can truly make a difference. It’s important not to over- clutter your shelves, but then again it depends on the look and theme you are going for. Heavy readers may want that library/den traditional feel, while light readers may want a mix of entertainment DVD/CD and magazines to showcase.
I played it safe with what I showcased but there are no rules as to what to feature. I’ve seen artwork, figurines and even a shoe-lover’s expensive collection. Let’s take a look at each section and some places where you can discover these finds. Hopefully you get inspired to switch your shelves up a bit.
For this bottom section, bins holding my older movie collection (VHS movies….lol, vintage I know. Are you still laughing?) Honestly, if you still have the means to watch them, i.e. VCR, no need to throw them out, right? I'm happy the movie-watching experience have come a long way, so my DVD collection is located right above. All are labeled via movie genre which makes it easy to locate one faster. The bins truly bring out this space and these were purchased at the dollar store- $1.00 each.
Books are color-coded and grouped together by category. Family photos, plants and candles round out the top shelf for your own personal touch. The white background gives a clean look but if you want some pizazz, you can opt to paint the back of the shelves, add decorative wall paper or cloth materials. I may play around with a few options at a later date.
I am a huge fan of the decorative motivating boxes but the bins are great for containing organized items as well. I purchased the solid black box from IKEA...love that place.
I have a little nook office-area located next to these second set of shelves, it’s the perfect place to add office materials and whatnots. Everything is in arms reach, which I love and liked-items are grouped together for that easy go-to section. More decorative boxes are great for holding important documents, printing paper etc.
Making a temporary home for my recipe books, filling some of the space until I need more office supplies. You can find these inexpensive decorative boxes at HomeGoods, Marshalls, TJ Max and similar places.
Organizing bookshelves with décor can be simple but fun. My next update may include more creative pieces or even a more interesting theme. Also, shopping around your house for items you can remix from one space to another is always cost-effective, $0.00.
Hopefully
you received a little inspiration to spark ideas of your own.
