Her name is GOAPELE (gwa-pa-lay), born Goapele Mohlabane on July 11, 1977. A California naitive who credits Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Prince and Bob Marley as early influences. She admits the late great Whitney Houston was the first album she ever owned. This talented Singer/Songwriter has been tagged to "neo-soul" with the likes of Amel Larrieux, India Arie, Angie Stone and Vivian Green. Although she hit the scene with her first album, Even Closer, back in 2001. She followed up with her second album,Change It All, in 2005 before going on a six year hiatus. Goapele collaborated with producers and various rappers, which brings us to her current project, Breaking of Dawn 2011. I'm really loving her sexy, smooth song, "Play". It's her sensuous vocals along side the funky rhythms of the track that gives it a Sadesque vibe. I'm sure her fans can't wait to see/hear more from her and what else she has instore. Get the latest from Goapele here.

Nasir Jones aka Nas or "Nasty Nas" or "Nas Escobar" or "Nastradamus" or "God's Son is a veteren in the game. He is one of the top respected rappers/lyricist standing the test of time. He's been known to have media controversy in his career and beef with other top ranking artists as well, which were eventually laid to rest. Throughout his career he had hits such as, "One Mic", "I Can", "Hate Me Now", "Get Yourself A...", "If I Ruled The World", etc. as well as a list of collabos with numerous artist, producers, video directors. Let's not forget his acting chops, which his fans are awaiting to see more from him in that area.
His latest album Life Is Good, has, one of my favorite, funky, head-bobbin single, "Bye Baby", via Guy's "Goodbye Love" sample. He's giving the real on "Daughters". For my brothers with daughters listen up...which was released just before Fathers Day...perfect timing. "Cherry Wine" is a collabo with the late Amy Winehouse, which have mixed feelings of the odd pairing. You can catch him on tour (along with L. Boogie-Lauren Hill). Be on the lookout for the blaze that Nas is setting. Nas may be coming to your city, check here for tour dates.
